Frequently Asked Questions
How much do I feed my horse?
The average daily maintenance feed rate is 1 Wilson Feed cup per day (equivalent to 3 kitchen measuring cups) - this would apply to foals, seniors, pasture pets, and performance horses who are not actively being worked.
Broodmares - would receive 2 Wilson Feed cups per day
Working Performance - would receive anywhere from 1.5 - 2 Wilson Feeds cups per day.
1 Wilson Feed Cups = 3 kitchen measuring cups
What horses (ages, disciplines) can have Wilson Feeds?
Our feeds are suitable for all ages, all stages, and all disciplines!
Are Wilson Feeds a 'topper' to my current feed?
No! Wilson Feeds feeds are a basically a high quality vitamin and mineral supplement that fills the nutritional gaps left by forage.
We do not recommend feeding our feeds with any pelleted or any other feeds.
Our feeds go perfectly with only quality hay (Bale or cuebs), and fresh water. (Sometimes an oil (Flax or Fish oil) on top)
I want my horse to gain weight, do I feed more of your feed?
As long as you are feeding a minimum of 1 Wilson Feed cups to a max of 2 Wilson Feed cups per day, then no, we do not recommend feeing more of our feed to help with weight gain.
Firstly we recommend to look at your hay, and the quantity & analysis and ensure you are feeding enough for 1.5-2% of body weight.
Most commonly, we recommend adding a cold press flax oil to your daily feeding.
Why we chose to have milled vs pelleted feed?
- Improved digestibility
- Maximized nutrient absorption
- No need for binders or fillers
- Freshness you can see and smell
- Easily eaten by all horses (seniors included)
I want to switch to Wilson Feeds, what would change in my feeding routine?
Whether you switch to our Wilson's Cool Formula or our Original Performance Formula - this would replace any pelleted feed, any supplements (unless you are temporarily treating a specific issue, and in that case reach out to chat specifically).
- 99% of horses on our feed no longer require any additional supplements of any kind
We also recommend not feeing any beet pulp, rice bran, or soy-hulls with our feeds.
The only additions we recommend is:
- Cold Pressed Flax oil if you are looking to help your horse gain weight
- Fish oil for additional joint support (our feed already has joint support, but some seniors may want more)
Where to find our full ingredient lists for our feeds?

Why is there garlic in your feed?

- Natural bug/fly repellent
- Immune system support
- Gut health benefits
- Respiratory function beenfits
Price shock per bag - explained!
Wilson Feeds retails for $60 per bag (some retailers may price up to $64.99 to account for shipping and handling). Our feed is formulated to include all essential vitamins and minerals, along with prebiotics and probiotics—eliminating the need for additional supplements.
With a low daily feed rate (averaging one Wilson Feeds scoop per day), one bag will last approximately 40 days for one horse. This equates to roughly $1.50 per day for a fresh, high-quality feed that delivers complete nutritional support.$1.50/day for a fresh feed that includes high quality vitamins & minerals, pre & probitoics.
I have a 'bleeder', can I still use your feed even though it has garlic?
Absolutely, there is no enough garlic in our feed to negatively effect your horse in that way - there is less then 1 gram of garlic per kg.
